The term "painkillers" is commonly used to describe powerful prescription pain relief medication.
Oxycontin is a brand name oxycodone-based, time-release pain relief medication approved by the FDA in 1995.
Oxycontin was originally created and manufactured by Purdue Pharmaceuticals. Through an agreement with Purdue Pharma in 2005, Watson Pharmaceuticals became the exclusive United States manufacturer and distributor of generic Oxycontin.
