Do I need medication to keep me sober from alcohol?

After people go through alcohol detox and rehab, are they prescribed medication to help stay sober?

Though alcohol is legal and casually used in many social settings, it can create dependencies that are extremely difficult to overcome alone.

Alcohol Addiction

Alcoholism is difficult to control. Many people choose to accept prescription medication to help manage cravings.

Alcohol Rehab

Many alcohol rehab programs use medication to help reverse dependencies created during chronic abuse.

During the detox process program administrators may prescribe drugs to help ease the client's withdrawal symptoms. It is not a regular practice to issue long term medications after release. The point of going through detox is to get off alcohol, not replace it, and live a sober, healthy life.
