What can I do if my parents are problem alcoholics?

My parents have serious drinking problems. My problem is that I still live with them. What are my options? Is there anything I can do?

Learn, learn, learn so you can stay safe, and avoid alcoholism yourself. Very important. Things are not exactly what they appear to be - you need to learn a lot about it.

Go to support meetings (like AA) and ask - there is support specifically for family members.

Get involved with Al-Anon or Alateen. These are group meetings for people who live with alcoholics. A good place to gain insight, strength and learn that you are not alone. Living in an alcoholic household is living in a dysfunctional environment. Without knowing it you are develop dysfunctional behaviors in order to cope with living in that environment which you will carry out into the world when you leave home to start your own life.
