Prescription Drugs

Antabuse is available by prescription only.

Alcohol Addiction

Many people choose to use prescription medication to help overcome alcoholism.

Antabuse, also known as Antabus in other countries, is the brand name for the drug Disulfiram, currently manufactured by Odyssey Pharmaceuticals.

Antabuse is the trade name for the drug Disulfiram. Disulfiram is prescribed to chronic alcoholics in order to discourage drinking. What the pill does is make the user's body react when alcohol is consumed by creating unnerving sensations such as anxiety, nausea, and headaches. Alcoholics that are prescribed the pill are encouraged to take it regularly to ensure a negative experience if the person is to ever relapse.
