"how long" questions usually refer to clearance, bioavailability, and detection (drug testing). Clearance rates (how rapidly substances are metabolized into other molecules known as metabolites) vary by substance, and vary with an individual's metabolism and activity levels, at least. Bioavailability refers to how long the substance remains active in the system. Drug detection by testing is accomplished many different ways.

Drug Testing

Methamphetamines, or meth, can be detected by some drug tests if it still "in your system".

Methamphetamines

Methamphetamines, or meth, are dangerous stimulants with a high potential for abuse and addiction. Common street names for meth include Crank, MAMP, Crystal, Icebergs or bergs, Crystal Glass, Mexican Crack, Crystal Meth, Meth, Christina, Tina, Cris, Cristy, Ice, Speed, Geep, Geeter, Getgo, Go Fast, Poor Man's Coke, Redneck Cocaine, Working Man's Cocaine, Trash, Garbage, Wash, Hanyak, Hironpon, Hiropon, Hot Ice, Cristy, Batu, Kaksonjae, LA Glass, LA Ice, Quartz, and Super Ice. Soap Dope (pink meth), Sparkle (shiny meth), Lemon Drop (yellow meth), Holiday Ice (green tint) also known as Christmas Meth.

Methamphetamines clear the system in anywhere from 1-3 hours as a minimum, and up to 2-4 days as a maximum. Some meth detox centers state that Heavy meth users could see meth in their systems for 10 days after last use.

JohnsAddiction.com published a list of drug testing detection times in their resources section.

You have to know the specific tests used for specific drug testing. If tests look for drug molecules, they will only react to the presence of the drug in the blood or urine. If tests look for metabolites of the drugs, they can flag probably drug use even after the drug is no longer active. Factors like body mass, activity levels, nutrition and fluid intake, and what other chemicals are in the system also play a role in clearance times for meth.

Some tests can detect drug use years after it has been stopped, although those tests are not commonly used for job screening or probation drug testing etc.
