Xanax (Alprazolam) is a very popular brand name benzodiazepine known as a mood altering drug. Sometimes benzodiazepines are called "benzos" or anti-psychotic medication.

Prescription Drugs

Xanax is available by prescription only.

Drug Testing

When a drug is "in your system", drug tests are able to detect its presence.

Xanax is the most commonly prescribed benzodiazepine.

Xanax is prescribed to treat anxiety, restlessness, seizures, withdrawal symptoms, and many other mental health issues.

Xanax is detectable by almost all drug tests.

  • Hair: 90 days after use.
  • Blood: 6-48 hours after use.
  • Urine: 7 days after therapeutic use, 4-6 weeks after a year of chronic use.

They say the half-life of Xanax after consumption is about 10 hours, which is about the point where you stop feeling its effects. But, as you can see from the drug detection times, Xanax will "stay in your system" much longer than that.
