Alcohol Treatment

Many recovering alcoholics use long-term treatment methods, like 12-step programs, to help manage their addiction for the duration of their lives.

Twelve Step programs are used to assist people to recover from addictive or dysfunctional behaviors. The first 12 step program was Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.) which was developed by two anonymous men, in the 1930s. The 12 Step approach has since grown to be the most widely used type of program used in dealing with not only alcoholism, but drug abuse and various other addictive or dysfunctional behaviors. Each step in the programs addresses a specific action the program developers believe the addict needs to perform in order to achieve the most well rounded state of wellness and recovery possible.
