Drug Addiction

Many people struggle with antidepressant addiction.

Prescription Drugs

Antidepressants, like Zoloft and Prozac, are available by prescription only.

Prozac, Paxil, Abilify, Wellbutrin, Lexapro and Zoloft are some commonly prescribed antidepressants.

Yes, antidepressants are addictive. However, many people, especially those medicated for mental health issues, do not know they are addicted to their prescribed drugs because they have never ceased use since beginning medication. Dependencies cannot be fully realized until there is no more drugs to take and the body must react without it's expected intake.

Having been on Prozac since 1990 and having gone off my meds due to not being able to afford them a few times, I can say that yes, you are addicted if you've been on any one of them for any length of time. As Jack said, you just don't know it. Withdrawal for me was not the nightmare you hear about with illegal drugs. What happened to me was that once the meds were out of my system I quickly returned to suffering deep depressions and could not shake them off until I was able to get back on my meds.
