Not sure if this question is trolling or not... but if it's not, it deserves and answer!

A few years ago everyone thought addiction was a disease, or a bad choice made by foolish people called "addicts".

Now we're learning that addiction is a consequence of substance abuse, where the substance AND/OR the act of abusing the substance, is "addicting".

The root question behind the addiction puzzle is WHY do addicts ABUSE SUBSTANCES?

When exploration that root question, we learn that addicts are lacking in life support. They lack the core support that humans need to survive life's challenges... which could be anything from insufficient IQ to absent coping skills, lack of basic love from others, or could come from a life corrupted by trauma, pain, chaos from abuse, or mental illness or emotional development issues.

Family, if it exists, has been shown to be an essential ingredient of recovery, when family members can be brought into the recovery solution, to play helpful roles as part of "life support".

I hope that helps!
