Methamphetamine (Meth) was originally introduced as a stimulant to keep soldiers alert in WWII and has been used to treat ADHD (though rarely used anymore). Meth is cheap and ignites the brain's reward/pleasure center, making the drug desirable on the streets. Street names include Crank, MAMP, Crystal, Icebergs or bergs, Crystal Glass, Mexican Crack, Crystal Meth, Meth, Desoxyn, Christina, Tina, Cris, Cristy, Ice, Speed, and others.

Methamphetamine, or Meth, is not only one of the most addictive drugs on the streets, but is also one of the most physically destructive drugs when chronically abused.

Methamphetamine (speed, crank, ice, Tina, crystal meth) is a highly addictive central nervous system (CNS) stimulant that, when used in high doses, creates feelings of euphoria, increased self-esteem, and boundless energy.

Methamphetamine came into popular use after World War II, during which it and similar drugs were widely used in military organizations to keep troops alert for long periods. While it may still be prescribed for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (brand name Desoxyn) it is closely regulated and has fallen out of favor for that use. Meth is still “cooked” in some rural areas, but most of that sold in the US is now imported from Mexico. With extremely fast absorption, such as with smoking or injecting, meth produces powerful euphoria, known as a “rush.” It can also be inhaled or taken orally, with somewhat delayed but still powerful results.
